Tom is a former director of international development agency CAFOD. He joined CAFOD in 2003, and as Head of Regional Teams developed a new supporter strategy which doubled the number of active volunteers to 5,800, which contributed to income growth from £29m to £35.7m between 2008 and 2015.
Before moving into the charity sector Tom worked in the recruitment industry and previous to that spent nine years as a Catholic priest in the diocese of Northampton.
Chair of Trustees Elizabeth Canning said: “The trustees and the staff at Providence Row are thrilled to have Tom on board. Providence Row helps more than 1300 people affected by homelessness every year and Tom’s leadership skills, expertise and extensive experience in the sector will help us continue Providence Row’s excellent work, and lead us to greater things.”
Tom said "I’m delighted to be joining Providence Row at such an exciting time of growth and development. I am looking forward to leading a dedicated team as we continue with this vital work supporting people affected by homelessness and disadvantages such as mental health or substance misuse issues. Providence Row provides them with a safe place to go, and advisers who can connect them with the rehabilitation services and training opportunities they need to build a better life for themselves away from the streets.”

- For homeless people, or those at risk of homelessness, finding employment and housing opportunities can feel like an uphill battle, even more so if they’re affected by physical, mental health or substance misuse issues. Providence Row works with more than 1300 homeless and vulnerably housed people a year in East London, offering an integrated service of crisis support, advice, recovery and learning and training programmes.
- Providence Row was shortlisted for the GSK awards. These awards are designed to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health.
- In January 2017 Providence Row achieved the Advice Quality Standard (AQS), a nationally recognised quality mark for organisations providing free, independent advice to members of the public. The award was granted to the charity’s Advice and Support team, which gives practical advice around housing, money and health to people affected by, or at risk of homelessness, in Tower Hamlets and The City of London.
